VANDERBURGH COUNTY CRIMINAL INVESTIGATOR AWARDED TOP FORENSIC EXAMINER

Evansville, IN — Criminal Investigator Jon Carter of the Vanderburgh County Digital Forensics Lab has been recognized as a “Top Forensic Examiner” by the U.S. Secret Service’s National Computer Forensics Institute (NCFI).

As a United States Army veteran, Carter possesses over ten years of military special operations education and specialized forces training. Investigator Carter has obtained over 800 hours of digital forensic training with various state and local agencies, including the United States Secret Service. Carter assists in high-profile cases involving murder, narcotic dealing, and crimes against children and has extracted approximately 2,000 devices. In 2024, Carter worked on the nationally followed murder trial, State of Indiana v. Elizabeth Fox-Doerr, in which he played a crucial role in securing a guilty verdict with the communication and location data he retrieved.

On Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025 at 9:30am, the NCFI will present Investigator Jon Carter with a Top Forensic Examiner award at the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor’s Office. Media are welcome to attend.
